Maple, Miso & Hazelnut Dumplings

Serves 6

Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

2½ cups water

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup maple syrup

2 heaped tablespoons white miso paste

2 heaps tbsp hazelnut spread

125g butter

2 cups self-raising flour

1 cup milk

Method

In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and half of the butter. Use fingertips to rub butter into flour. Add milk and use a butter knife to gently bring the mixture together into a soft dough, being careful not to overwork it.

In a large saucepan, add the water, brown sugar, maple syrup, miso paste, pernotti spread and remaining butter. Place over low heat and stir until the butter has melted and the mixture is smooth.

Bring the sauce to a boil, then drop heaped dessert spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture into the hot sauce mixture.

Turn the heat to low, cover with a lid and simmer gently for 15–20 minutes or until a skewer inserted into a dumpling comes out clean.

Serve warm in bowls with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of cream.
